Nipuna De Silva
Nipuna was born and bred in the beautiful island nation of Sri Lanka. He received his primary and secondary education at Ananda College, Colombo. After completing his G.C.E. Ordinary Level and G.C.E. Advanced Level, Nipuna joined the Audio Academy in Bangalore, India, to pursue his professional and higher studies in sound engineering and lighting design.
Nipuna commenced his career with an internship at Systematic Inc. in Bangalore, gaining industry experience. Upon returning to his motherland, he continued to work as a freelance sound engineer and lighting designer.
One of the notable early events he worked on was a live concert featuring the world-famous artist Sean Paul. Since then, Nipuna has collaborated with many bands and artists in Qatar, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and India, leaving a lasting impression on the industry. In Bangalore, he contributed his skills to gigs such as the Bangalore Open Air Metal Music Festival, Mighty Rock Union, Blues Festival at Counter Culture, and Fashion Show 2015 in Pondicherry. In Sri Lanka, he worked with esteemed bands such as Gypsies, Daddy, Battery, Glory, Magic Box Mixup, Midlane, and more. In addition to freelance sound engineering in Sri Lanka, Nipuna served as the lighting designer for the well-known band “Wayo”, making significant contributions to their “Wayo Live” concert series and the groundbreaking “Anagathaye” concert series.
In Qatar, Nipuna made valuable contributions as the front-of-house (FOH) sound engineer for ‘The Backyard’, one of the largest concert events in the country and a major event during the FIFA 2022 in Qatar. He has also been involved in other prominent events and concerts, including ‘Api Nodanna Live’, ‘Infinity’ Night, ‘OK’ concert, ‘Summer of 23’ concert, and collaborations with talented bands such as Faraway Martin, Major 5th, Caravan Dream, Infinity, Crosstown Traffic, The Chickpeas, Midnight Queen, Bloody Mary, The Cuban Project, The Exit, Mariachisimo, Alien Culture, Tripod, Resident Aliens, After 6, SkoolBoi Erra, CRUNG!, Studio 974, The Hoodrats, Under Construction, The Clinch, The Exiles, Authentik and Wafa among others. Furthermore, Nipuna has worked with exceptional artists such as Faraway Martin, Sheranga Pietersz, Noemi Crus, Luciana Maya, Athula Adikari, Raini Charuka, Ramiya (Voice Finalist), and many more.
After working as the HOD/Sound Engineer for Sky Audio, Qatar; Nipuna is currently based in Doha, Qatar, and he continues to contribute his expertise and oversees sound engineering operations as a freelance sound engineer, ensuring exceptional audio experiences for a wide range of events and productions in the industry.
